Scientific advisory board

The Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) is an external advisory board to ensure the high quality of DBI2 program. It advises the Steering Committee on all aspects of the consortium, including research strategy, international competitiveness, organization, and knowledge transfer.

Prof. Dr. Julijana Gjorgjieva

  • Expertise: Computational neuroscience, Theoretical neuroscience, Neural circuit organization
  • Organisation: Technical University of Munich

Professor Gjorgjieva conducts research in the fields of computational and theoretical neuroscience. She is interested in how brain circuits become tuned to maintain a balance between constant change as we learn new things, and robustness to produce reliable behaviour.

Prof. Georges Gielen

  • Expertise: Microelectronics, Nanoelectronics, IC design, CAD, EDA
  • Organisation: KU Leuven

Georges Gielen is a full professor at KU Leuven. His research interests are in the design of analogue and mixed-signal integrated circuits, especially in analogue and mixed-signal CAD tools and design automation, including modelling, simulation, optimization and synthesis as well as testing.

Bruce McNaughton, Ph.D.

  • Expertise: Molecular, cellular and brain system mechanisms of memory and memory disorders
  • Organisation: University of California, Irvine

Dr. Bruce McNaughton neuroscientist and Distinguished Professor at the University of California, Irvine. The main focus of Dr. McNaughton’s research is the physiological and computational basis of cognition, with particular focus on brain mechanisms of memory and spatial orientation, and on the dynamic interactions among neuronal populations that underlie these phenomena.

Prof. Ewelina Knapska

  • Expertise: Neurobiological basis of emotions, emotional contagion, identification of connectivity-based neuronal circuits in the amygdala, monitoring rodent behavior under semi-naturalistic conditions.
  • Organisation: Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology

Prof. Ewelina Knapska is the head of the Laboratory of Emotions Neurobiology at the Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology. Her expertise lies in the neurobiological basis of emotions, particularly in the mechanisms of socially transmitted emotions using rodent models of emotional contagion.
