From January 2016 I am University Research Chair Professor in the Theoretical Chemistry Department of the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam.

I have got my degree in Physics in 1996 at the University of Rome La Sapienza, with a thesis in AstroChemistry, concerning molecules in the early universe.

My PhD in Physics, awarded in 2000  from the University of Perugia, focused on properties of the electron liquid, under the guidance of Prof. F. Sacchetti and Prof. G. B. Bachelet.

I then got interested in density functional theory (DFT), and I did my first postdoc at Tulane University, in the group of Prof. J. P. Perdew, a leading scientist in the field.

Back in Rome, for a two-year position, I worked on the 2D electron gas with Prof. G.B. Bachelet and Dr. S. Moroni.

With a Marie Curie intra-european fellowship I then moved to Paris, in the group of Dr. A. Savin, another leading scientist in the field of DFT. I then got a permanent CNRS position in the same lab.

In 2009 I was awarded the Dutch NWO grant Vidi, together with the Aspasia prize for excellent women academics and I moved to Amsterdam. In January 2015 I have been awarded an ERC Consolidator grant.
